Hatha yoga is the most practiced yoga in the world. It is the practice of bringing harmony to the two main energies in the human body, the energy of the Moon and the energy of the Sun. In Sanskrit the Moon is known as “Ha” and the Sun is “Tha”, therefore Hatha. The shushumna channel is the third one that unites all three, leading to the word yoga, derived from the root word Yog, meaning union.
Hatha Yoga is the physical branch of the yoga tradition, based on the relationship between the body and the mind. It uses postures (asana) and conscious breathing (pranayam) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength, flexibility and relaxation. It concentrates on perfecting the physical body in order to affect the mind and consciousness.
Hatha involves slow and controlled movements, focusing on stretching and holding poses. This practice, which is the foundation of most types of yoga, will stretch and strengthen your body.
In a Hatha yoga class you will normally experience asana (physical postures), pranayam (breathing techniques), meditation and relaxation.
Kundalini Yoga & Meditation is the yoga of awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul. Kundalini Yoga is one of the oldest forms of yoga and has been practiced by the Upanishads in India since 500 B.C.
Kundalini Yoga works on all aspects of the body, mind and spirit through, pranayam (breath), mantras (chants), asana (body positioning), mudra (hand positioning), bhanda (body locks), meditation and relaxation. It balances and heals the chakras, aura and your whole being to create a more healthy and happy way of life.
Kundalini Yoga is a science and technology of human consciousness to achieve self mastery and happiness of your total self. It is a gradual process of increasing your inner light, awakening your awareness and unfolding your true nature of who you really are.
A Kundalini Yoga class/workshop will normally consist of pranayam (breath), warm-up exercises, kriya (sequence of yoga postures, breath and sound), meditation, mudras and relaxation. Kundalini Yoga may involve rapid sequences of repetitive movements or holding a pose, both whilst breathing in a particular way.
Each class is different. Don’t be surprised if you dance, sing, hold poses or move your body in a way you have not done before.
Kundalini Yoga is known for its expansive system of kriyas and meditations, working on the many different aspects of our being. There are literally meditations for almost everything you can imagine.
Most styles of yoga work with the yang aspect of ourselves and our bodies. The dynamic, energetic and heating aspects. Working the muscles to build strength.
Yin Yoga is a more cooling and restorative practice. It works the deeper connective tissues such as the facia, ligaments, joints and bones.
Yin Yoga is a slower practice, where we hold poses for 3-10 minutes and take our time with each movement.
It’s a mediative style of yoga, where you hold a pose for an extended period of time. Sitting with the pose and the thoughts and emotions that may unfold whilst holding a pose.
This helps you to go deep within, focusing on your breath and creating a deeper connection to yourself.
As you hold poses for a longer period of time, Yin Yoga helps you stretch the deeper connective tissues. The aim is to find your edge, a place you are comfortable in, rather than over pushing in a pose.
Yin Yoga is based on the meridians in Chinese Medicine. With each pose stimulating and working with a particular meridian, in order to bring the body back into balance.
By stretching and holding poses for a period of time, its goal is to open up the blockages within the meridian pathways, to allow energy to freely flow through the body.
When our energy is blocked, disease begins. Yin Yoga aims to release any blockages and provide deep healing.

Melissa is a skilled and sensitive teacher. She is able to bring the essence of mindfulness meditation into a creative and accessible form that allows both beginners to learn and those who have meditated before, to grow in their own personal practice. One of the most beautiful aspects of Melissa’s weekly meditation class is the true sense of spirit that you feel once you step inside. Thank you, Melissa, for sparking a positive journey for myself.
Meditation classes with Melissa are very empowering because she has given me tools and information to use every day to help with my issues or worries. Practicing Melissa’s meditations has really given me clarity, motivation and strength to do the things I love and enjoy for myself.
I first met Melissa during her weekly free meditations and attended many of her yoga workshops. I liked it all, and always felt wonderful after. I loved that she was giving back to the community. I then attended her meditation classes and I liked that too. I had been meditating for six years or so and needed to expand my practices. Wow, she has given me a new, fuller, deeper understanding and confidence. The mantras, mudras and meditations have helped me become a much happier, healthier, intuitive person.
